Herpes Zoster is as acute, painful virus disease affecting the skin overlying sensory nerve trunks and the nerve trunks themselves. It is characterised by groups of small blisters on inflamed red skin areas. The blisters may turn into crusts leaving behind the scars. They become pustules or turn into spots of gangrene.
Herpes Simplex is caused by a particular virus. The illness occurring when the virus first enters the tissues of a susceptible person is called "Primary Herpes Simplex". Later manifestations are caused by a reactivation of the virus which remained latent in this person's tissue since the time it first entered. These are called "Recurrent Herpes Simplex". "Cold sores" or "Fever Blisters" on the lips or around the mouth first consist of small vesicles forming yellowish crust and then disappearing after 10 days.
